Chewy is well settled with his CCRT Foster family and they just adore him! He was transferred to CCRT from a rescue where he was surrendered by his owner.
Chewy is ready to go wherever you are going any time-any place. He can walk for miles! He has endless amounts of curiosity. He is affectionate, playful and has energy to spare. He rides well in the car with a harness, so he can accompany you anywhere. He is good off leash and will always come when called. He doesn’t want to miss anything! Because he does everything full on he can be a bit klutzy. This causes him to constantly run into things and he can miss-step, even tripping himself up.
Chewy is in good health. He does have the occasional bouts of inverted sneezing, when he gets worked up. His eyes are getting a bit aged and his eyesight is slowly deteriorating.
He is a great eater and he has regained the weight that he needed. His coat is now nice and shiny. He can be a little too exuberant when taking treats but his foster family is working with him on improving his manners.
Chewy is housetrained, however if he is given too much unattended freedom, he will lift his leg to mark on occasion.
He is protective of his people and his home. If he was a person he would be a Marine. He is a Rottweiler in a Chihuahua body. When he is being carried, Chewy is protective. If someone comes to say Hi to him, he will growl. Yet, if he is walking on leash and someone says greets him, he is pretty friendly. He is little bit unpredictable with his reactions. He likes to walk the perimeter the yard regularly to check for intruders and any abnormal activity. He does bark when excited or when he thinks he hears something, so he is probably not suited for an apartment.
That being said he is a lovely affectionate dog. This from his foster Mom:
“Sometimes Chewy and I will sit together on the front porch swing without the other dogs and he loves to hear my voice, he nuzzles and nestles into my neck while making little groaning noises it is very endearing.”
Chewy comes by his name very honestly, he has big teeth for a Chi and a strong jaw. He will need some heavy duty toys as he has pretty much decimated every stuffy in the house!
Chewy is no recommend for a household with children. He would be best with an experienced owner who is not intimidated by his growling and posturing, because it is all pretty harmless. He would do well with another dog, especially a bigger laid back dog that he could not bully.
If you would like to adopt Chewy, please fill out an adoption application. You can purchase a sweater and/or blanket for him, or any of our other fosters dogs. Please consider becoming a CCRT Sponsorship Angel for any of our fosters by making a cash donation towards their care.

Hi there! I wondered if a home with no children is a strict must for Chewy or could there be a situation that is acceptable? He sounds perfect for my current chi but I do have two boys ages 10 and 12. They have solid experience with many types of dogs including puppies, seniors, fosters, rescues and all sizes. Thank you, Tomma
Hi there, thanks for your query. It’s not recommended that Chewy be in a home with younger kids. However, we have lots of great foster dogs looking for a new family. We encourage you to complete an online adoption application to get the ball rolling on the process. A Regional Coordinator will touch base and work with you to find a suitable, loving new furry friend.
OK thank you for your quick response!
Hi there,
How is Chewy with small animals… (Cats in specific)?!
Thanks for your question! Chewy appears to be neutral with cats, he apparently paid no attention to the one at his ‘in transit’ foster home. If you think Chewy might make a wonderful addition to your family, please don’t hesitate to complete an online adoption application here.
