Meet Chewy
Don’t let this pint-sized Chewbacca fool you—Chewy is full of energy, personality, and zest for life! This 10-year-old little guy is looking for his forever home, and his world revolves around three very important things: his person, receiving belly rubs and his daily walks.
Chewy is happiest when he is with his humans. He’s the kind of dog who will happily follow his person from room to room throughout the day, just wanting to be close by and, of course, receive plenty of pets. He absolutely loves attention from people and is a cheerful, affectionate little companion.
He has a low-to-medium activity level and enjoys his daily walks. He’s happy to head outside rain or shine and would love a person who will keep up his daily walking routine. His reaction to snow has yet to be tested, but we suspect this little guy will take it in stride!
Chewy is comfortable around other dogs and could live as either an only dog or with a canine companion. While he generally does well with dogs, he has shown some discomfort when larger dogs approach him while he is resting. He has also occasionally growled or snapped at people when he is tired and resting on the couch and is moved. For this reason, his adopters will need to respect his boundaries and understand that, like many older dogs, he appreciates having a quiet, undisturbed place to rest.
Chewy has moderate separation anxiety and barks/ cries when left alone. He is therefore not an ideal apartment dog unless his adopter is willing to work with a qualified trainer to help him become more comfortable with alone time.
He has been reported to be okay with cats, although this has not yet been tested in his foster home.
Chewy has been around children and will tolerate and enjoy attention from them, but because of his age and his tendency to communicate when he is tired or wants to be left alone, we feel he would be best suited to a home with older children—ideally 12–15+—who understand how to respect an older dog’s boundaries.
Chewy is fully house trained. Chewy is in need of shedding a few pounds and his adopter will need to be committed to working with him on this with diet and daily exercise.
At the end of the day, Chewy is a jolly, people-oriented little guy who simply wants to spend his days beside his person, enjoy his walks, collect his pets, and be part of a family. If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow with a big personality packed into a tiny body, Chewy might just be your guy.
