In Loving Memory of Chico:
On the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend we lost our little boy Chico. When we adopted him from CCRT many years ago, he was known as Chester. He was renamed by my husband as Chico but throughout his life was known by many others, Cheeky Chops, Little Mama, Pointy Face and Moo Moo to name but a few.
He was flagged as having fear aggression as he had been through a very tough time in the first three years of his little life. As he grew to trust humans however and receive the love and care he deserved, he turned into the biggest cuddle-bug ever and had a huge capacity to love and be loved. He adored our mini- schnauzer Toby and his favourite place was being snuggled up with him in the bed that they shared.
Chico was feisty and strong. He braved the Canadian winters at the cottage, sat by the camp fires, basked in the sunshine, hit the trails in Algonquin Park and generally just loved life. When he was diagnosed with heart failure, he was only given a few months to live but he embraced life for another 4 years. He had a strong will to live and love.
Sadly his little body began to fail him and it was time to say goodbye. He passed peacefully in my arms, wrapped in his favourite sweater. We will miss him terribly but we were blessed to have had him in our lives for the time that we did. He has given us so much joy, happiness and love and for that we are truly thankful.
Until we see you again at Rainbow Bridge, little Moo-Moo.
“The risk of love is loss, and the price of loss is grief. But the pain of grief is only a shadow when compared with the pain of never risking love.”
