We are happy to report that, as of February 18, 2014, all the puppies have found homes. Thanks so much for all your interest and support!
These five scalliwags are the Chihuahua Chinese Crested puppies of Precious, an adoptable chihuahua with Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport. Precious inadvertently got pregnant before she came into the rescue. The poppa was a Chinese Crested dog. Precious gave birth while under the care of CCRT. Its unusual that all five puppies would have survived, since some of the litter at birth were mere ounces. But with the dedication of our experienced foster volunteer family, as well as attentive medical vet care from John Street Animal Hospital, even teeny tiny Amber made it to her 13 week birthday.
Puppies and Kids
It takes a special kind of home to raise a puppy. While puppies are cute and playful bundles of joy, they do not come without work! They have frequent accidents and need someone who is home with them for the most part of the day to give them potty breaks until their housetraining is well underway. The first few months are crucial for their training, development and socialization. Translation = please do not apply for adoption if you and / or your family follow a 9-to-5 away from the house schedule.
Puppies and young children, while they sound like a natural combination, too often do not go hand-in-hand. Puppies jump, chew, and do a lot of playful mouthing with those very sharp puppy teeth! Young children by nature are bouncy and energetic and can easily injure and/or frighten a young puppy. Small breed puppies in particular are very delicate and need to be handled with care. If you think you have the time, patience and guidance to give to a young puppy then we look forward to receiving your application!

Chihuahua Chinese Crested Puppies
So far, Annie has been adopted by a wonderful family who had adopted from CCRT previously. And there is another wonderful family coming for a meet and greet this weekend for one, maybe even two of these little tykes. Here they are in a more current picture, nine weeks old.

The advantage of having an application on file with CCRT means that the rescue has a ready-made calling list when little guys like these come up for adoption. That’s how the puppies get adopted even before they make it onto the website!
So if you are looking for an adorable Chihuahua Chinese Crested mixed breed puppy – AND are a qualified applicant, which includes, in part, someone available to care for the puppy throughout the day — please do come on over an fill in an application!
Precious will be available for adoption once she recovers from her pregnancy, and is assessed for a grade three heart murmur and its effects on her spay operation
All the best to the brood, and watch our website for more information on adopting one of these delightful puppies and dedicated momma!
