Dobby came into CCRT care after not having the best start in life. Despite this, he is thriving in his foster home and has shown what an amazing dog he is and will continue to become. He has much to learn and is facing these challenges head on.
Dobby’s favourite activity is snuggling with his human. He quickly became very attached to his foster parent and loves when she is around. He craves and adores her attention and his favourite resting spot is on her lap, receiving pets and cuddles. If you fail to live up to his petting expectations, he will gently remind you by pushing his head under your hand for more! Other favourite activities include stealing socks from the clothes hamper, paper products out of the garbage and his absolute favourite past-time of coffee table surfing. Dobby is still a puppy and can be mischievous at times. He has not been destructive at all in his foster home but has some funny and endearing puppy antics that will require some surveillance. Dobby also loves car rides and going on adventures. His furever family should be active and include Dobby on many adventures.
Dobby has been learning to walk on leash and has been doing well. He wants to follow his human but will get skittish when encountering unfamiliar situations. So many new experiences for this young boy.
House training is a work in progress. He was not housebroken upon arrival in his foster home. In a few short weeks, Dobby is about 75% there. For the most part, he likes to do his business outside but will also use the pee pad sometimes, and then there is the occasional accident.
Dobby is initially nervous when meeting new humans and dogs. True to stereotypical chihuahua form, he is standoffish and will bark and growl. He then settles quickly and he warms up to new dogs quicker than he warms up to new humans. Dobby loves playing with the small resident dogs in his foster home and he would benefit tremendously from having another small, playful dog in his furever home. He hasn’t had any exposure to children but we don’t anticipate any issues if children are dog savvy and respectful of boundaries. He has lived with cats in the past and has done well with most of these cats. However, he did show aggression towards one of them so cats would be dependant on the individual cat’s personality. He has high prey drive and loves chasing critters in the backyard. He has learned to be respectful at a short distance with the resident hamster in his foster home.
Dobby has separation anxiety when left at home alone, even in the company of the resident dogs and will voice his displeasure with constant barking. He has shown some improvement but not enough to be suitable for apartment/condo living.
Dobby’s ideal home should be a detached home or a townhome but only if townhome neighbours are understanding and patient with a barking dog while alone in the home. He should not be left alone for more than 3-4 hours at a time and ideally, his furever home will have another small, playful dog as a constant companion. This is not required but is preferred. If there is no other dog in Dobby’s furever home, he should not be left alone for more than 2-3 hours at a time. He is a puppy and requires playtime/walks, etc. He loves the backyard in his foster home and a backyard would certainly be a bonus but is not necessary provided he is taken outside for activity (dog park/play dates/walks/hikes/etc.) very regularly throughout the day. Dobby’s furever family must be patient and help Dobby build confidence while continuing to work on his housetraining. They should also be active, as he would benefit from many outings and activities to meet his energy level.
If you are interested in adopting Dobby and you fit all of this description of his ideal forever home, please fill out an adoption application. You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for him or any of our foster dogs. Please consider becoming a CCRT Sponsorship Angel for any of our foster dogs by making a cash donation towards their care.
