May 24, 2019: Adoption Pending
Sweet, timid Fawn needs a home that’s patient, quiet and willing to help her overcome her fears. Are you that family?
Nine-month-old Fawn has just come into CCRT’s foster care program and she’s a sweet, but skittish little pup. In her past life, she was confined to an apartment, so everything seems new and overwhelming to her. Despite her anxiety, her foster family believes she will be an active, silly little girl once she’s overcome it.
Fawn was recently spayed, microchipped and tested for heartworm, which came back negative. She had her first set of vaccinations and will require booster shots to provide full immunity. She’s in good health, although she does have minor luxating patellas, something that’s common in Chihuahuas.
Initially very skittish, she has gained some trust in her foster home. She no longer runs and hides from humans, although fast movements, eye contact and voices can be stressful for her. She does enjoy a good snuggle, however, and is naturally curious, which is likely to help her overcome her fears.
Fawn is still working on potty training and has made significant improvements, but still has a ways to go. She is learning to do her business outside, in addition to using pee pads indoors. She will need someone who is tolerant of her accidents and can work towards housebreaking. She is still learning to walk on a leash and get used to the great outdoors.
Fawn lives in her foster home with two male small dogs, who she seems comfortable around. She doesn’t interact with them, but will lay nearby or follow them around the house. She seems ok with cats and would likely do well with another small dog or cat under 25 pounds for company.
CCRT is looking for a quite, patient, experienced home for Fawn, where her new humans are committed to continuing work with this timid little girl and getting her past her fears. This will likely take time, but the payoff will be worth it! Underneath her fearful exterior, Fawn is a sweet girl who wants to love and be loved. We require a home with a fenced yard for her, as well as a household where there are no young children and she will not be left along for more than 6 or 8 hours during the day.
If you think you have what it takes to give Fawn the care she needs, please fill out an adoption application for her.
You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for her, or any of our other fosters dogs.
Please consider becoming a CCRT Sponsorship Angel for any of our foster dogs by making a donation towards their care.

Fawn looks beautiful and I would definitely be able to help her with her social anxiety I do have a very large fenced yard and also have a fully recovered male named bebes he was a rescue and came from trauma he did not like men he would wear a leash he was scared of everything he know is a lot more comfortable with hisself his anxiety has came down and he actually is becoming more social only issue is that I do have two nephews ages 6-8

If you’re interested in adopting Fawn, you can start by submitting an online adoption application form for her here. Once received, it will be reviewed and a Regional Coordinator may be in touch.
There is a lot more to adopting a chihuahua than the ability to give it love and cuddles. Most people would find them cute. However, their physical needs especially if they have luxating patellas is a different matter. This can entail costly surgery although not necessarily. Dental needs is another issue. People need to think very carefully and not be guided by only their hearts. They are not a toy. Fawn needs someone with a lot of canine experience.
