Shorty has found his forever home.
Shorty’s Story
Found as a stray, Shorty took up residence in a shelter at the end of July. The shelter contacted CCRT in September. While staff became very fond of him, they felt he would be better served by being in a CCRT foster home. Shorty is a very sleek and attractive young fellow with a rich caramel colour and lovely amber eyes. He is a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix and is in good health. This lovable lad wants to be close to you at all times whether being held or cuddling on your lap. He enjoys giving kisses and he loves sleeping in his foster mom’s bed under the blankets.
He has a good appetite. He loves his meals and spins in circles when he knows he is about to be fed! He is now on a weight loss program to shed those few extra pounds he is carrying. Shorty loves lying out in the sun and could do so all day.
Shorty is in foster care with 2 other dogs. After the usual adjustment period, they now get along well. However, Shorty can get a little jealous because he wants his foster mom all to himself. From time to time the other small resident dog gets grumpy with Shorty, who doesn’t react at all. That’s a good result.
There are some good opportunities to work together with Shorty to achieve some goals and create a great bonding experience. And he is absolutely crazy about his walks and jumps up and down and spins in circles when he sees his harness! He does still need practice with his leash work as he pulls. When he sees other dogs, he gets excited and wants to visit them. If he is on the porch when this happens, he can be vocal. As he is very attracted to other dogs (as well as those exciting squirrels!), he will try to escape off the porch or out of the fenced back yard. He is not fond of being crated and will bark for a while before he calms down. He is young and needs to finish his training. There’s nothing Shorty would love more than to grow right up into your family.
Shorty is coming along very nicely and is a very sweet dog. He’s hoping to find someone he can share his big smile and loving heart with for years to come.
