Lucy has been adopted.
Updated July 20, 2017
Meet little Lucy.
She is dreaming of her perfect forever home. It has no children.
This pretty 6.1-pound girl was surrendered by her owner so that CCRT could place her in a loving forever home where she will not be stressed out by children. Like some toy-sized dogs, Lucy does not appreciate kids, and she was unhappy living with them.
Lucy is a chocolate-brown and tan Chihuahua. Her short coat is as soft as velvet, and you will love stroking her. She is a young nine years of age, in great condition, and really enjoys going for walks on leash, chasing birds and squirrels, and playing with her toys. She does fixate on certain stuffies. Her favourite game is playing fetch with her ball.
Once Lucy gets to know you, which does not take long, she will give you lovely kisses. You need to earn her trust by handling her gently. She is very affectionate and loves to cuddle while talking in your ear. Lucy bonds quickly with her human and likes to be close. In foster care, it has taken time to condition her to being more comfortable when left alone for short periods.
Since arriving in foster care, Lucy has been examined by CCRT’s vet, vaccinated, had routine blood work done along with a heartworm test (negative), and she has had her teeth cleaned. Her teeth are good and she has no known health issues. She was already spayed and micro-chipped.
Lucy must have an adult-only forever home with a calm environment where her dog-savvy human is home most of the day to spend quality time with her. She is used to living in a house with a safely fenced backyard. She is house-trained and does not use pee pads.
At first, Lucy was well-behaved with visiting dogs in her foster home. However, now that she has settled in, it is evident that she needs to be an only dog in her forever home to avoid jealousy issues. Apparently, she has lived with cats at some time in the past.
If you are interested in adopting Lucy, please fill out an adoption application. You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for her or any of our foster dogs. Please consider becoming a CCRT Sponsorship Angel for any of our foster dogs by making a cash donation towards their care.

Will you come to Wilmington, NC?
CCRT is a Canadian organization but we encourage you to visit Chihuahua Rescue and Transport in the USA!
Would it be reconsidered to have Lucy join a loving family with teenage children? Currently have a 4 years old male chihuahua who is extremely docile. Please advise at your earliest convenience.
Thanks for your query on our darling Lucy. It’s been determined that Lucy is best adopted out to a home with adults only (ie, over 18). However we have other dogs in foster care who would love to meet you and your teenagers. Perhaps you’ll consider one of them for your family? Thank you.
Has there been any interest from anyone to adopt Lucy yet? Thank you
Lucy has no pending applications/adoptions at this time. Please feel free to review her profile and if you feel you’re a suitable home for our sweet girl, we’d love to see your adoption application!
how is she about being handled, picked up…groomed…bathed?? does she have any issues with feeding with another dog her size around?
Thanks for your question. We asked Lucy’s foster family to provide a reply, this is what they said:
“Lucy is fine when being handled, picked up, groomed and bathed as long as she is handled very gently by a dog-savvy adult human. Occasionally, she will growl to protest being lifted out of her dog bed. At mealtimes, Lucy will protect her food if another dog tries to take it. She will also try to sample the food in the other dogs’ bowls. In Lucy’s foster home, dogs are separated and supervised for the few minutes it takes them to eat their meals, so that they can relax.”
thank you that was very helpful! I appreciate it
Do you know if Lucy travels well in a vehicle? We are retirees who travel to Arizona each year and we take our 6 lb. Grandpuppy with us, who is also a chihuahua named Diesel.
Thank you for your inquiry on our special girl! Lucy’s foster family states that Lucy has only been on short local trips by car, and she does cry. In some cases, dogs will get used to riding in the car and this could happen for Lucy. However, there is no way to know for sure.
I would love to share my home with Lucy. We have a beautiful 9 yr old min poodle, since she was a puppy we loved her.
There are no children living in our home..just my husband and myself and a fenced in large backyard.
Please let me know what statues or chances of being her parents.
Thank you for your time.
Thanks for your interest in Lucy. To get started, please complete an online adoption application and a Regional Coordinator will be in touch!
How long has she been with you?
Lucy has been in her foster home since April 25, 2017.
We rescued a 6.6 lb chi last fall and would like to get a companion for her. She is about 2 and loves to run and play. Do you think the age difference and activity level would be a problem?
It’s hard to know how this would turn out. It does require the dogs to meet to see how they get along. You could submit an adoption application to the ball rolling and see if a meet and greet could be set up.Thanks!
