If this beautiful girl with the soulful eyes could talk, she would likely have a heartbreaking story to tell us about her past but, thankfully, her future is bright.
Maple was found cold and abandoned in a crate in a park, with a note saying “take me home.” She was transferred to CCRT after she felt overwhelmed in a shelter environment. She is now safe and warm in our care, and she is ready to find a wonderful forever home where she will be cherished and loved unconditionally.
Understandably, Maple has significant trust issues with humans, but she is showing progress while being cared for and rehabilitated in an experienced, loving foster home. Her foster mom says that Maple will likely be a snuggle-bug once she fully trusts her humans.
For now, car rides, crates and leashes are among Maple’s least favourite things. Hopefully, this will change once she feels safe and realizes that nothing bad will happen to her. Fast or unpredictable movements are frightening for Maple and can cause her to feel that she must defend herself if she is cornered or overwhelmed.
Maple is comfortable and confident in the company of the other dogs in her foster home, and she loves to play with them. She watches them and follows their lead. We don’t know how she feels about cats
Maple is about 75 per cent house-trained. She prefers pee pads to going outside. Her new family will need to continue this training.
Like most dogs, Maple will bark when people enter the house or she sees animals and people through the window.
The ideal forever home for Maple is with a family that has the patience and understanding to challenge her in a healthy way to come out of her shell, and demonstrate to her that humans are worthy of her trust. Any children in the home must be at least eight years old and dog-savvy so that Maple will never feel threatened or fearful enough to react inappropriately. Ideally, there will be another dog in the home to play with Maple and teach her how to be a dog.
Maple has had a wellness exam, a dental and a heartworm test (negative). She is microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and she is spayed.
If you are interested in adopting Maple and you fit all of this description of her ideal forever home, please fill out an adoption application. You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for her or any of our foster dogs. Please consider becoming a CCRT Sponsorship Angel for any of our foster dogs by making a cash donation towards their care.
