Milo (formerly Oreo) Pupdate:

Milo is settling really well into our family. He really enjoys playing with his three-year-old doggy brother and they’ve been enjoying lots of zoomies together around the garden! He has also been gentle with his feline sister, giving her space when she needs it.

Milo is very sweet and affectionate with our two teenagers and is enjoying having lots of attention from them, and extra laps for his snuggles! He is a very curious pup and likes to know exactly what is going on in the house at all times. He follows us around the house, and particularly likes checking up on me throughout the day.

Milo is still getting to know his new neighbourhood and is slowly building confidence when walking on a leash. We are looking forward to taking him to explore some local parks and forests when he is ready for it. Milo has done amazingly well with his house training since he arrived, and he sleeps well throughout the night. We feel so lucky to have him as part of our family.

Thank you to everyone at CCRT who helped to bring this lovely dog into our lives.

Introducing Oreo

Oreo is a 9-month-old, 6 lb bundle of sweetness and snuggles! This pint-sized Chihuahua thinks he’s your shadow – and your pillow, lap accessory, and favourite hoodie. If you sit, he’s in your lap. If you stand, he’s under your feet. If you blink, he’s already planning to spoon you at bedtime. He is a stage 5 clinger!

Personality:

  • Velcro pup: follows you everywhere with zero shame or spatial awareness – caution is needed when you walk around for sure!
  • Chill puppy energy: content to chew a toy by your desk or curl up and watch TV on your lap. In typical puppy fashion, he will chew things he shouldn’t if left on the floor or within his reach.
  • Barking: was super quiet at first in his foster — by day three, he barked for the first time and is showing his confidence is growing as he settles in. He cries with excitement when his foster mom gets home. Very Cute!

Good to know:

  • Separation anxiety: Oreo gets a bit dramatic when you leave and will howl, yes, howl on repeat. With patience and training, this can be helped or even stopped completely; time and training will help. But because of the howling, apartment life would not be ideal.
  • Social skills: he lived with a cat and does well. He is curious about other dogs but still learning what they are all about. He didn’t have dog exposure, so it’s not unusual to ignore them at first. Good with men and women and, like most dogs, takes a few minutes to warm up to you.
  • Potty: goes outdoors (most of the time) but may need a little extra time as he’s glued to you. Patience is key until he wanders off to do his business. He can be an indoor pee ninja, so frequent potty breaks are a must.
  • Kids: he’s okay with children, but for safety reasons, older kids are a must since he’s so tiny and tends to be underfoot most of the time. He really has zero self-preservation instincts at all!
  • Bedtime: he is happily snoozing next to you all night long after a few good night kisses and then a few more. And if you wake up, he will give you a few more kisses, just because.

Perfect home:

Oreo would thrive with a patient owner who works from home or is recently retired, who wants a devoted companion, willing to work on gentle training (space, independence, potty), and provide a calm home where his clinginess is managed. Older kids for safety and a detached home are needed due to the howling. For 6lbs, he can really belt it out! A small dog friend close in age would be perfect company for him.

If you’re looking for a tiny, loving sidekick who will always be by your side, meet Oreo.

*Please keep in mind that his foster home is still getting to know him and this is what they have learned in the short time he has been with them. Behaviours can and will adjust and change as he settles in and learns his new routine.
