Little Oreo is a bit older (approx. 10 to 12 years) but is extremely young at heart. He loves being outside, going for walks, and taking naps. He is shy and barks a little bit when first meeting people but once he warms up to you he loves to get pets and keep you company.
Oreo is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped and has had dental surgery. His owner passed away earlier this year and he found his way into CCRT’s care.
Although Oreo is the ultimate snuggler once he is comfortable with you, he was a bit nervous of touch for the first couple of days while he decompressed in his foster home. Now his foster mom can touch and handle him at will but he sometimes doesn’t like to be touched when he is sleeping.
When Oreo wants affection (and you aren’t already giving it to him) he will reach up and make little noises so that you know he wants scratches or to be up on your lap.
Oreo has lived with other dogs in the past but struggles with meeting them while on leash. We would not recommend a home with cats as he is not a fan or a home with small children who might grab at him.
A home with someone who is with him most of the time would be ideal for this wee guy as he is quite vocal when left alone. Crate training has not helped to ease his barking when left alone.
Oreo is underweight but has a healthy appetite. Watch out if you drop any food on the floor – he is lightening fast! He is missing quite a few teeth so his food should be softened prior to eating.
He is house trained and is also pee pad trained but does prefer to do his business outdoors. He may have had some city exposure in the past because he will stop and poop right in the middle of the road instead of waiting for some soft grass.
Oreo walks nicely on his leash. He loves to roll in the grass and he would probably chase all the squirrels if you let him. Oreo is an agile little guy; escaping his playpen and leaping over boxes and curbs and has no trouble navigating small steps.
Oreo doesn’t seem to react to loud noises, happily walking right by garbage trucks and sleeping peacefully through thunderstorms but open the fridge or jangle your keys? He is right there waiting!
As far as car rides are concerned, Oreo is a nice companion on shorter trips. Just a tiny bit fussy off the top and then he lays down and snoozes. When you arrive at your destination, he gives a squeal or two of joy! On longer trips, he gets a little restless during the trip and will periodically whine.
All in all, Oreo is a lovely and clever little dog who is a delight to have around!
If you meet the criteria for Oreo’s new home, please fill out an adoption application. You can purchase a sweater and/or blanket for him, or any of our other foster dogs.
Please consider becoming a CCRT Sponsorship Angel for any of our fosters by making a cash donation towards their care.
