Meet Penny, a tiny survivor with a long road ahead.

Penny isn’t available for adoption Right now, her only job is to heal.

This precious little girl, estimated to be about 2 years old and weighing just 5.4lbs, came to CCRT from an Ontario shelter after she was never claimed. No one came looking for her. No one came to take her home.

When Penny arrived, it was impossible to miss the evidence of trauma. Her body is covered in a severe, chronic, non-contagious skin infection that left her with extensive hair loss and rough “elephant skin.” She was so desperately itchy that she scratched at herself almost constantly, unable to find any relief.

Thanks to Critter Cabs, Penny safely made her way to her foster home, where her foster family was waiting to welcome her with the kindness and care she’d been missing. Since arriving at CCRT, she’s been vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. Our veterinary team has already started treatment, and we’re thrilled to say the medication has eased her itching.

Once she’s recovered from her spay surgery, Penny will begin her frequent medicated baths and ongoing treatment to help her damaged skin heal. Her recovery will take patience, time, and ongoing veterinary care. Whether all of her coat returns remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: she’ll never have to suffer alone again.

What’s most remarkable is Penny hasn’t let her past define her. She is a sweet little girl who enjoys attention and is already showing us that despite everything she’s been through, her heart is still open. She still believes people can be kind.

Now it’s our turn to prove her right.

Please consider helping with the cost of her medical care. Donations of any amount make a real difference and allow us to give dogs like Penny the treatment they so desperately need.

To donate to Penny’s care you can e-transfer to donate@ccrt.net or make an online donation through our website.

Thank you for helping us show this tiny survivor that her future will be nothing like her past. Her journey is just beginning, and we can’t wait to share her progress with you.

If you are interested in Penny, please watch for updates on her progress. Applications will not be considered at this time until she is ready for adoption.
